About the work
This is an original staging of music by Vaughan Williams and Maurice Ravel. The show tells of the serendipitous encounter of two wayfaring strangers whose fates led to, and eventually apart from, each other. Through music and song, they bask in the joy of living and the zest of unexpected and youthful love. Just the same, they ponder over the woes of belonging and life’s certain uncertainties.
Inspired by the core spirit of YST Voyage Festival’s— re-imagining classical repertoire through collaboration with fellow alumni— there were many “firsts” and innovations our ensemble braved. This includes the re-arrangement of Vaughan William’s Songs of Travel— originally sung by a baritone— for a mezzo-soprano and baritone. In our show, pianists, who are usually relegated to “bench duty”, explored fuller dimensions of stage role by alternating between playing the piano and dramatic roles.
